So, I’m hanging out with a girl-friend who’s daughter had spent a week at our summer camp. This beautiful and spunky 10 year-old had decided to enroll in other camps, before the summer even began, to try out lots of “different experiences.” Deep down, I wondered how our camp fared in her ranking system, but I would never ask – you know well-mannered kids will always tell you what is “nice” to say.
As my friend and I sipped our drinks and talked about life and work and family, her daughter skips over and says, “Mommy, when am I going back to her (my) camp? I love it there!” Can I just say that I was SHOCKED! So I ask, “Really? Do you really want to be at our camp over X camp & Y camp?” She answered with a resounding, “Yes! Your camp’s the best. My favorite!”
I’m not the type to brag, usually, but I’ve just got to share this. Why? Well, because for small, purpose-driven programs like ours, it’s easy to never be satisfied with what your offering or doing. You always want to do more or better or something. A common thought might be, “I wish we could (fill in the blank).”
This moment reminded me that even little programs make big differences in the lives of those we serve – what a blessing!
For The Learners (& The Learned), LOL!!! 🙂
