“What?” you say (and I don’t mean Tolkien, the author, but I do mean something like the “One Ring”). A token is a symbol that represents evidence or proof of something more than itself – a “Token of my affection” for example. And we all have and use tokens, whether we realize it or not. Today, go out of your way to listen or watch for things your kids aren’t literally telling you, but that are obviously interesting or compelling to them. Then, surprise them with a token – a statement, a note, a sticker, a voicemail, even a Snapchat that serves as a representation of your attention to them that they can hold on to.
